Capital Police arrest 33 drunk drivers

ITANAGAR, Aug 9: The Capital Police is acting tough against drunk drivers. According to police sources, many vehicles have been detained and drivers arrested for offences like drunk driving and travelling without valid documents.
In total police has detained 19 vehicles and arrested 33 persons so far. In Itanagar police station, 10 motor vehicles have been detained and 16 persons were arrested, at Naharlagun PS 4 vehicles were detained, 10 persons arrested, at Nirjuli PS 3 vehicles were detained, 4 persons were arrested and at Banderdewa PS 2 vehicles were detained, 3 were persons arrested.
Further police sources added the drive will be intensified in coming days.
“Especially during the night time, it is witnessed that many drunken driving related incidents take place. Therefore the drive will be conducted strictly during the night hour,” added the police.
Mend the Capital roads: ANSU
ITANAGAR, Aug 9: All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has called on the PWD Minister to immediately repair Naharlagun to Itanagar road.
Commuters have been facing numerous problems because of slow execution of repairing work, the Union said as it demanded the PWD Minister to monitor the work personally.
If PWD Minister is unable to maintain the Capital roads, then he has no right to continue in the office, ANSU stated.
ANSU President Byabang Joram also demanded PWD to maintain quality of work including provision of drainage system. Due to bad quality of work, it can be concluded that “Engineers are rich but roads are poor”, he said.
Pen down strike
ITANAGAR, Aug 9: The All India DRDA Staff Welfare Association Upper Subansiri district unit has called off its proposed pen down strike.
The cancellation resulted after the unit consulted with All India DRDA Staff Welfare Association state unit.
20 Mithuns marked, vaccinated in Riddi village

DAPORIJO, Aug 09: For the first time in Upper Subansiri district, 20 Mithuns were marked for identification and vaccinated by a team of experts and doctors from District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department at Riddi village.

and fund from the government for procuring microchips were also discussed during

The Mithun owners were advised for routine vaccination of their prized animals to protect them from diseases like FMD (foot and mouth). The vets and experts explained on how to protect their livestock assets from various diseases, rearing methods and government’s initiative to protect and preserve Mithun.
Later, the Mithun owners were distributed medicines for their livestock with proper administration methods.
According to the villagers, there are around 1000 Mithuns in the area which is feasible for establishment of Mithun rearing/preservation centre in the village.
Tree plantation cum motivational camp for blood donors
ITANAGAR, Aug 09: Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) of Itanagar unit organised a tree plantation and blood donation motivation camp under its “Support to Youth led Action” programme at Govt. Higher Secondary School Chimpu near here yesterday.
Around fifty different species of saplings were planted in the school campus by the students, who were also sensitised on the importance of maintaining eco friendly environment by preserving forests and discouraging deforestation.
Later, Chairman of Vivekananda Yuva Shakti Ramesh Jeke explained to the students the importance of blood donation and motivated them to come forward to donate blood voluntarily which is also beneficial for donors.
Around 95 students, teachers and youths from Chimpu, Lourputung and Donyi Colony attended the programme.

ITANAGAR, Aug 9: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has rubbished the allegations leveled by BJP leaders and Minister for Commerce and Industries, Nirmala Sitharaman on Chief Ministers of three Northeastern States, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur saying that they were protesting against the accord signed between the NSCN (IM) and the Govt. of India on the behest of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
The party termed the allegation as baseless, unfounded and an abrupt attempt to hide the arbitrary intentions of the BJP Government at the Centre for signing the peace accord hurriedly without consulting with the affected states.
“It is amply clear from the reports that CMs of the three affected States were not consulted on the peace accord while Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken other non affected States' consultations including CMs of West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu etc. on board which are nowhere connected with the Nagaland issue,” said APCC in a press statement.
“When any accord which does not have the mandate of the affected States and its people then how can it be termed as a historic peace accord,” the party questioned.
“BJP must know that every Chief Minister is responsible for the security of its own people. When they express their views through media, it does not mean that it is against any particular political party. They share their resentment keeping in view the security, integrity and peace of their own states,” the party said.
BJP must first answer why Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who holds an important charge of Internal Security and a member of parliament from North East, was absent during the signing of the accord, the party said.
“It appears that even he was not consulted on the peace accord as his statements in media does not match with that of the inside story of the peace accord”.
Another thing that has kept everyone in the dark is the incapability of the central Govt. to disclose the contents of the peace accord, APCC said, and demanded the central Government to immediately make the accord public.
“It was only after the resentment expressed by three CMs that the Prime Minister had agreed to consult with the affected states before going for the final deal on the same.
Now it is for the people to decide who has gone for U – turn. Was it the CMs of the three affected states or the Prime Minister of India, the party added.
Workshop on Nyishi language and Nyishi patriotic/folk songs organised at Yazali

Workers demand for barrack, enhancement of wages

PASIGHAT, Aug 9: The East Siang unit of All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) has demanded the state government to sanction fund for construction of labour barrack at Pasighat besides enhancement of labour wages.
The union in its recent memorandum submitted to Chief Secretary and Commissioner
of Labour stated that more 1000 labourers in East Siang district have been deprived
from their legitimate rights and basic requirements like dwelling houses. A large
chunk of labourers engaged in various government departments live in labour camps
in unhygienic condition. The union urged the authority to pay their house rent in
the form of ‘allowance’. Moreover, the lowly-
The union also demanded for “enhancement” of the wages of the workers on seniority basis.
The memorandum stated that more than 1000 contingency labourers have been serving in various departments for 10 to 20 years with meager wages. Thus, existing wages of those labourers working for one to five years should be increased from Rs 4,500 to Rs 6000, while the labourers serving for 15 to 20 years should be enhanced from Rs 7000 to Rs 15, 000, the union demanded.
The union further demanded for providing various other existing facilities and maternity leave allowances and increase the existing rate of medical reimbursement.
“We have been demanding the state government to upgrade dignity of labourers and pay equal salary for equal category of works’, said Pritom Chetry, secretary of AAPLU, East Siang unit in a press statement.
APBOCWW chairman urged workers to support for cause of state’s development
ITANAGAR, Aug 9: Acknowledging the contribution of labour force in nation building, Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board (APBOCWW) Chairman Nyamar Karbak called upon the workers of the state to continue their support for development of the state.
Addressing the members of All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) at Nyikum Niya Hall, Nirjuli yesterday during the website launching ceremony of, Karbak said, he will approach the state government to consider regularization of services of those award winning labourers. To encourage the labourers, the state government has initiated to award the two best workers with gold and silver medal annually, he informed.
The MLA from Liromoba also highlighted the state government’s various welfare schemes and benefits extended to the workers of the state.
Earlier, Karbak formally launched the website of AAPLU and distributed laptops to
the meritorious students, who secured 90% and above marks in class 10 and 10+2 examination

Strengthened democratic values
Some of the recent decision of government of India is deeply worrying the people of India and many believe that it infringes upon their fundamental rights. The decision to ban porn websites and issuing of show cause notices to three TV news channels for their coverage related to Yakub Memon hanging has not gone down well with the public. Earlier government had received severe flak for banning documentary film based on Nirbhaya gang rape incident. Banning of porn sites was strongly criticized and later government backed down by agreeing to ban only those sites which promote child pornography. Now this latest decision to issue show cause notice to 3 news channel has created flutter.

So long! Swachch Bharat Abhiyan
Dear Editor,
Arunachal and Swachch Bharat Abhiyan are mutually exclusive of each other and it applies especially to the twin capital city of Itanagar and Naharlagun. When Swachch Bharat Abhiyan was launched, many political leaders and organisations were seen carrying out this Abhiyan as if they were the ambassadors of it and they would pursue it for lifetime. But the result is totally disappointing. One can see that there are garbage piled up on either side of the road.
More appalling is the fact that the Itanagar Municipal Council is not efficient enough
in keeping the twin city clean. Itanagar and Naharlagun is lacking basic civic amenities;
proper drainage, street light, dustbins to name a few. The garbage van supposed to
pick up garbage daily is erratic and intermittent; they are hardly regular in their
duty and because of their absence for a day or two the whole sector/colony is found
to be surfaced with plastics and waste. IMC should look upon this problem. I know
this letter will hardly change anything because Arunachal is state where communications
and directions follow a top-

A defensive explanation
Dear Editor,
The defensive explanation of 30th July 2015 made by the Director NEIMS College, Jorhat in your daily newspaper is indigestible.
The Director of NEIMS counter claim that allegations of the college being fake has been made by rivals of his college itself speaks many things and making me more apprehensive about the purity of College.
After an advertisement published in the Arunachal Times, we decided to find out more about NEIMS, Jorhat.
My brother opted for Tourism Course after all formalities with the counsellor and joined the college for the session 2012 & 2013 but in middle of the academic session, it come to our notice that Tourism Course was not available under NEIMS and hence college authority were compelling the tourism students to opt for Bachelor of Business Administrative (BBA) or leave the college.
Frustrated he came back from NEIMS after losing a precious year. Now he is in BA Second year where as he should have been in BA Third Year.
After reading the splendid advertisement of the college, all the admission fees were given through the Agent/Counsellor of college, which has gone waste. We send relatives for studies after observing the prospect of tourism in our state but such institutes discourage them.
I could have stayed silent on the issue but I don’t want any student to suffer.

During the period from 1612 to 1682, there were Conflict & Treaty for several times in between the Ahoms and Mughals for expansion of their territories followed by establishment of greater Ahom Kingdom by the Ahoms. So, it is not correct to say that the question is set from out of syllabus.
Further, it shall be highly appreciated if the undersigned would be approached for clarification on such matters before one goes to the media for publication.

Dear Editor,
The walk in interview for various posts of guest lecturers was advertised on 02.08.2015 by Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, GoAP. The date for interview has been fixed On Aug 10 after short listing. Many candidates were rejected. The educational qualification sought for guest lecturer in Civil Engineering is bachelor’s degree. But there was no mention about percentage required.
It is seen that those with below 75% got rejected. My child who secured 74% also got rejected. The department should have made it clear while advertising. It is disappointing. I urge every department to advertise clearly so that there is no confusion. Please allow us to appear in the interview. If not, refund the money spent on copying documents and transportation.
